Lesson 3: Building and Maintaining Trust

Reflection

Think of a person you trust a great deal. It may be a parent, sibling or other relative. Perhaps it is a religious or political leader, a teacher or employer. Think about what the person says and does that helps you to trust them. Initially everyone must use a leap of faith to begin to trust. The size of the leap may vary from one person to another and from one situation to another, but initially everyone gives tests or watches actions to see if the other person will act in a way that is true to his or her word. For example, if a team member promises to have parameter measures in the online database in two days, you will check to see if this is the case. If it is, trust is built. If it is not then trust is not given a chance to grow and develop.
