Cultural Dispositions: Ethnocentrism
Stereotypes
Using limited or inaccurate information, general descriptions of characteristics or behaviors are perceived to be true for all members of that group. The stereotypes may be pleasant (i.e. the I AM CANADIAN commercial that stated all Canadians are nice) or hurtful (i.e. classifying all members of a religion to be radical and narrow-minded). The view is symptomatic of very evaluative and rigid thinking.
A GV team will need to avoid stereotypes that may cause members from one culture think of team members from another cultures as wonderful artists, great mathematicians, or creative souls and understand what each person's unique abilities and characteristics are.
