Lesson 3: Building and Maintaining Trust

Reflection and Practice

Have each team member on your team create a virtual distance map. Follow the steps outlined above individually, then share each team member's diagram with the other team members. This may take some time, but it will indicate virtual communication perceptions (or misperceptions) within your team. It will also indicate how you may strengthen team connections and thus team trust. Remember, every team member does not have to be connected to every other team member, but the larger the team the more connections there should be between each team member and other members. The idea is to build a sound network so if one member is missing for any period of time, or leaves permanently, there is still a way to get information and continue working.
